The Self Made Woman Conference held on April 22, 2017 was entertaining, life-changing, empowering and motivational.
I couldn't help but admire the female speakers, women who have gone through thick and thin to be successful in their various fields in life to the extent that they look like an overnight success. The speakers were the likes of Omoni Oboli, Dr.Ola Brown, Kemi Adetiba, Dolapo Badmos, Tara Durotoye and Foluso Daramosi.
The host was no other person than Peace Hyde so you can imagine the great presence and impact the women who attended the event felt.
The Conference kicked off with an opening prayer and Peace Hyde the welcomed the Convener of the event, Linda Ikeji for her opening remarks. She shared her life changing story with us and i must ask why do most people tend to ignore the struggles and hard work of people, especially women? they always have this ideology that their success is due to their promiscuous activities or one negative thing or the other, this notion has to change because most women are the champions behind their fame and fortune.
Linda's story is indeed a story that encourages us to keep moving no matter the obstacles, trials and difficulties we face in our journey.
Here are few tips i would love to share with you and hope you ponder on them squarely:
1. Fear:
This is one thing i myself am still battling to conquer fully, nothing at all limits you like fear of failing. it is way better to fail and learn than have regrets with no achievements, so if we allow fear overcome us then we would keep sitting on that mountain waiting for that someday to come, for a miracle to appear forgetting that it doesn't work that way at all.
"IF YOU DON'T MOVE, NOTHING MOVES" Take a bold step today as fear only makes one not to possess one's possession.
2. Hard work:
I don't think there is anything one can replace or substitute to being hardworking and persistent.
"Work hard so no man can bluff you"- Kemi Adetiba. No matter what, prayers and hard work can make you successful especially when you put in your best in what you do.
Keep working for a cause, not for applaud, work to express not to impress.
3. Operation face your front:
Mind your business, it doesn't matter what Mr A or Mr B is doing just maintain your lane because if you keep looking at what others are doing, you only distract yourself in the process. Focus on your goals, finish what you started before jumping to something else.
4. Plan:
We have dreams, aspirations but what have you done or prioritize in order to achieve it. You claim you want to be an actress and yet you shy away from auditions, how can you actualize your dreams?
its not even always about about the dreams it is what are you doing to take charge, what are the plans you have outlined and how do you get closer to your goals each day.
5. Your work is a business card into the universe, it will speak for you:
If you do good work, people will know you for it and you don't even need to move about with your business cards as your good work will bring more clients/customers to you.
Passion drives one like crazy, and its only when you love what you are doing that you do it well.
Whoever looks at your face and tell you that as a woman your dreams are too big and you cant be able to achieve them in life, just spit at the person's face i will come to fight for you.
The way most people discourage people from their goals, dreams and aspirations is so bad and it kills one's vibes drastically, we just have to be very careful of our circle and surround ourselves with people with goals and dreams, people who will encourage you to be better and stand out.
There is one thing in making money and there is another thing in reaching out to people who are still trying to find their feet, your impact will be greatly felt if only you reach out to people out there it could be through empowerment, training, fundraising, loans or any way you deem fit.
You may not even be too rich to lend or give to people, just give without having thoughts of repayment, as long as you give, many more better things are to come.
To be continued....
